Delicious local spot, highly recommended year round. We got the Memphis burger special with sweet potato fries (our favorite part) and the Classic burger with fries. Check it out if you're in Custer!

Great experience! Seating was 10 min wait and the price for four of us total was about $48. However, the food was amazing! Juicy cooked hamburgers and i scarfed mine down it was so good, and the fries were hot,salty and crunchy. The lady who served us was very nice and friendly. The places is great , the food was delicious and very filling. It was so nice to sit in a restaurant again since everything happened

Black Hills Burger & Bun Co. is the best burger place to eat at in Custer, South Dakota! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The menu has a large variety of options. The buffalo was delicious! Be sure to stop by and eat here when in town. Word to the wise....get here early or expect a wait to be seated. Either way, you will be satisfied!

We stopped here just on our way through South Dakota. The hostess was very help full and got us a table as soon as she could. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs as a large group. She filled our glasses as soon as they were empty and was super funny and nice. The bottom of my burger, however, was very soggy from the sauce they put on there but, I would definitely stop in again. For the low prices and the good food. You cant compete!!!

Went during restaurant week in Custer, had a fantastic waitress. Appetizer was chips and salsa (tasted super fresh and chips were warm) I had to Oozy Ollie yum!! Fast service and food despite the quick growing crowd! Will def be returning with friends!!

Really fantastic burgers. We're a picky group but this place came recommended to us. Great buns, made in house, meat is juicy and flavorful, and the flavor combinations were delicious and varied. Would definitely visit again when back in town, this place is a jewel.

Always a good sign when on a mildly chilly day there is a line of people waiting for the opening minute. Large portions and always good. Have been here multiple times.

I’d give it six stars if I could. I was happy with every part of the experience. Yes, we waited for twenty minutes to sit, but that’s because the place was PACKED from how many people wanted to eat there! Great food and great atmosphere. Our server, Lindsay, was so nice and accommodated for our every need (including my dairy allergy). I will definitely be stopping there again whenever I’m in the area!

This place is amazing, the Hot Granny is the best burger I've ever had, the fries are fresh and good, though there aren't many that come with the meal. The service is phenomenal, they're kind and cordial but very efficient. Overall, I loved the place! Would definitely recommend!

It was packed when we arrived, but only waited a short time for a table. Service was amazing. Food was reasonably priced, service was quick, and I really appreciated the three vegetarian burgers/options on the menu! Local beers on tap, too. A very good experience and we will definitely make a point to go there again.

A bit of a wait, but totally worth it! I'd heard a lot about this place before we finally got a chance to eat here. It did not disappoint. Fried green tomatoes are great. Classic Buffalo Burger with cheese and bacon, superb.

Great shakes and malts! Had a bit of a wait as it's a small space and it was tourist season, but definitely worth it! Buffalo burgers are advertised as being ground in-house and taste great!

This place has the best burgers in the Black hills, hands down. Anytime I'm coming through Custer for work I try to get a Fat Smitty to go ( that's the burger pictured ) the staff is always nice and to go orders are fulfilled in a very quick manner. -Single stall restroom-Best burgers in the Black hills-Best burger meal price-Hours of operation are not ideal-I wish I could call for a to go order during summerAll in all this place is amazing, you have to try it at least once and I warn you, you'll be hooked!

Black Hills Burger and Bun Co was unexpectedly one of the best burgers I have ever ate. I ordered the Texas and was up-charged (worth it) for sweet potato fries. I was pleasantly surprised when out came my sizzling burger with sweet potato waffle fries. I was able to catch up with a friend in my time there. The waitstaff was incredibly helpful during the decision process and meal. The only downside is they closed at 7:30 which I found unusual, but I was from out of town, so perhaps most places close at that time in Custer, SD.

To say this is a great burger place is an understatement! We were lucky enough to visit during restaurant week, so I tried their lamb burger and man was it delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive... I'm just glad we happened to get there when it opened as the place filled up fast!

The food and the service are always excellent! A unique little place that does one thing and does it very well. These aren't just your patty/condiment burger though. They'll make that if it's what you want but their menu burgers are a diverse transformation of "what could be." Every side choice and dessert I've tried was spot on as well. They fresh grind beef and bake buns for every meal so when they're gone, they're done with that meal and close to prep for the next one. Don't be late!

We got here an hour early. They open at 5 for dinner and I heard there is always a line. Well, we were first in line and I'm glad. The line formed quickly. All 5 in the fam said this was the best burger ever. Worth the wait. Service was excellent.

Really delicious burgers and fries. Patties are juicy and the buns are perfectly soft. Malted milkshakes are great too. All in all a great place for dinner. Minus one star for not being open for dinner on the weekends though. What’s up with that?

We drove up to the City of Custer and had lunch at this popular restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. One of the best hamburgers I have ever had. It had a generous sized patty seasoned to enhance the flavor, cooked to perfection resulting in a tasty and juicy sandwich. Glad we stopped for a satisfying, reasonably priced meal at the Burger and Bun restaurant.

Crazy amazing burgers and very affordable. I‘ve tried they spicy pineapple one - absolutely delicious! Also they‘ve had a very yummy peach crumble dessert. You‘ve got to try this! :)

Excellent food and service! The cheese curds were advertised by our waitress as being as good as the Wisconsin variety and she was correct. The fried pickles were great too. Our burgers were excellent. Everything about the hot granny was wonderful. Even the kids chicken tenders were great. So, so good. We'll easily come back next time we're in town.

Great check in system which is important due to a wait to be seated. Fabulous burger and fries. The burger tasted great and was very tender. The worst thing I can say is the bun was a little too light and fluffy for my taste.

Arrived at 11:09, the dining room being half full a mere 9 minutes after opening was our first clue that the experience was going to be epic. Marked clearly on the napkin holder was a sign that suggested one try the burger, before slathering it in condiments. (Fantastic advice, in retrospect.) Kk was our server and was fast and professional during a rapidly escalating lunch hour. She even answered our questions about the 'pay it forward board' during the hustle. We had the locally sourced bison, which was delicious. The potatoes and buns are house made and cooked to each order, it was fast, fresh and hot. The meal for two had a price tag of $59.77, which included a couple beers and even a patty for the dogs. By the end of our roughly 30 minute meal, there was a line of patrons going out the door. What other than a perfect rating for a restaurant that serves delicious food quickly while generously paying said good food forward? Bravo.

One of the best burgers that I've ever had and some excellent sweet potato fries. I highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat if you're going through South Dakota.

I can’t give them 5 stars because of the wait to get our food but the Fat Smitty burger definitely was worth it. Since the place is so popular we had to wait 30 minutes which isn’t that bad to be seated and 50 minutes to get our food. I also got to taste their sweet potato fries and it is definitely worth upgrading for the side.

The classic buffalo burger is tasty. The burger is cooked well, however it is juicy and full of taste. The lettuce, onions, pickles are fresh. No ketchup needed. The homemade bun is light fill of flavor. The fries are crispy and perfect!! A must have!

Everyone at the table agreed, this was the best food we've had in long time. May be the best hamburger I've ever had. Anyone who has an issue with it being "plain", isn't a lover of beef. Great fresh meat, moist, not greasy, just the right seasoning to enhance the flavor and not overpower it. They have some weekly specials they run, and I got their Bratwurst Burger. (The burger I ate was my kids' leftover) They even make a bratwurst better in every way. Perfect combination of brat, kraut and curry ketchup in every bite. These guys are sandwich masters. I'd put it right up there with the food I had on my trip to Munich. Desert was every bit as good as the main course. Ate to overfull because I just couldn't get enough. I've waited an hour or more for great food, and this would be worth it. Since we came in the off season, we were seated and ate right away. It's worth driving for even if you aren't in the area.

Best burger in the Black hills, from the wonderful service too the Awesome food. You may wait in line for an hour but so worth the wait time. Please give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

Friendly staff and amazing food. Came all the way from Houston for this restaurant's high reputation. This will definitely be a must-go every trip to the Black Hills. Ordered Mint Shake, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pesto Burger, kids quesadillas. All so good.

Everyone in the family enjoyed! The buffalo burgers were fantastic and prepared and cooked perfectly. My girls enjoyed their kids meals especially the plates the food came on. We were here mid April and there was no wait. However, I hear the summer is super busy so be prepared. I highly recommend coming here for a meal. The food was yummy and the staff was very friendly.

The hype is real and wait is worth it. Had lunch there two days in a row while visiting Rushmore. I will stop here going forward anytime I am in the area. Restaurant is small but it is clean and the staff is friendly. Because of how small the restaurant is, both wait times were over an hour and fifteen minutes. They text you so walk around and enjoy town. The Fried Green Tomatoes were excellent (I've had better, but not outside of the south). I had the Hot Granny Burger and enjoyed it but the sweet-spicy Jalapeno sauce was too sweet for my taste. Had the classic the next day and loved it. This place frequently gets rated as the best Hamburger in South Dakota and one of the best in the US. I can say I agree with both 100%.

Great meal as always! First heard about this place a couple of years ago and now we go whenever we can. Drove all the way from Spearfish this afternoon. There's generally a pretty long wait, but they will take your name and text you when your table is ready which is so nice. Get to walk around and see Custer, SD while you wait. (1hour) They have vegetarian options, (not sure about vegan) the Lousy Hunter is a black bean burger. The most popular by far is the Hot Granny, the sauce makes the burger for sure. You can get it with beef or locally sourced bison meat. I'm told the bison is sourced from Western Bison Co who get their meat within 500 miles. I'm also told they grind all the meat in house. We also got the chicken sandwich and a plain burger. All had good reviews! Great atmosphere, the staff are always so friendly and ready to answer my millions of questions. Definitely a must if you're in the hills.

Great burgers! You can clearly tell that they are made fresh with good quality beef. The service is superb! Great milkshakes as well. However the wait can be long so make sure you get there early!

Excellent place for lunch or dinner! Initially went to Skogen but they required reservations and wouldn't seat us so we came here and were NOT disappointed. Staff was super quick, friendly, and got our meal perfect. Food was excellent. We had the classic burger with bacon and the state fair fried pork sandwich. The pork sandwich was a very big portion. Also had the fries and sweet potato fries. Both were crisp and salted to perfection. Can't recommend the food enough. Beyond our expectations. You cannot go wrong here, please stop by if you are in Custer. Would come again!

So good that we had it for dinner one night and lunch the next day while visiting Custer State Park.

Our waitress was Kay-Kay. She was delightful. Quick and responsive and even though it was super busy she was on top of the ball. Wife got the hot granny, I got the fat smitty—We also got cheese curds and fried green tomatoes.The environment is tight, but cozy with a lot character! It’s very clean though and not super loud. But be warned, because it is small, there will always be a wait. Ours was about an hour and a half. The cheese curds were crisp, and juicy. They were very well done and came with a lot for the price. (Everything is well priced for the amount of food you get. About 9-11$ for a burger and fries, the appetizers will run you about 8$—but again, very good sized) The fried green tomatoes were excellent. Same as the curds, juicy and extremely flavorful. It also came with a unique sauce, that was delightful. A lot about this place is very unique! Burger was juicy and HUGE. It was truly top 3 burgers of all time. Plus:bathroom was also super clean.
